Iain McGilchrist’s The Master and His Emissary: the divided brain and the making of the western world is a lengthy work on neuroscience that will not appeal to many, but if you can sign out a copy from your library, I highly recommend reading the first six-page section of his conclusion (p428-434) wherein he presents a startling answer to the question of “what the world would look like if the left hemisphere became so far dominant that … it managed more or less to suppress the right hemisphere’s world altogether.” With six pages of of astute observations, he has absolutely ‘nailed’ our current Western capitalistic world.
